炒豆合作社 BBQ

We walked about in 南锣鼓巷 for about 1.5 hours before the guys from 炒豆合作社 finally called us. We were so famished!

The entrance to the hutong.

Pretty in the evening sun.

This is 炒豆合作社, a hole-in-the-wall deli that thrives on good word-of-mouth. If you're going on weekends, make sure you reserve the day before or risk being turned away at the door.

The decor gives off a feeling of Chinese underground gangs 黑社会, reminiscent of Taiwan's Monga.

The very friendly operator telling us that we had to make a reservation way in advance next time.

Love this place. It is so unassuming, yet serves good food. There are 3 spartan rooms like this with 5 to 6 tables to seat patrons.

We started off with the super refreshing passion fruit in crushed ice. We doubted that it was passion fruit, though, should it not be red instead?

Open had a haw drink, while I ordered iced honey pomelo tea. This mashed potato was delicious, and the Chinese flag (in the place of a US one) was funny.

The grilled stuff finally came! This is grilled 馒头 (bun) with some sort of tofu stuff spread on it. Delicious.

Yummy grilled clams in cheese and mayo.

Bacon. Not my favorite but it's okay.

Now, here's my favorite, the deli's 招牌菜 flagship dish, spicy BBQ wings. This is only 2nd-grade spicy, there're up to 5 grades. Super super yummy!

Finally our grilled beef came. It was too overdone and tough. Not good.
