Every year, whenever a major holiday is near – Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali or Christmas – we get some of the year’s best commercials. They are not the best in the sense of special effects, but in meaning.
They make us reflect on our privileged lives, and those less fortunate than us. They reignite our fatigued hearts that have struggled the whole year with so many problems, problems that pale in insignificance compared to those of our less privileged countrymen. They make us understand, that regardless of race, religion and color, we are ultimately human beings; and being put on earth as the most intelligent life form, we are blessed with the ability to care and help each other out, protect the other life forms (animals, especially for me) and the planet we live in.
This is one touching story for this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri which falls on Aug 19. A shout-out to the film-makers who made this outstanding work, proud of ya!
Watching this reminds me of the late Yasmin Ahmad. Although she is no longer with us, I am glad there are other illustrious story-tellers who can bring a message to all Malaysians the world over that our multi-racial, multi-cultural society is the best asset we can have. I am proud to be Malaysian.
To see Yasmin’s many good work, simply make a search on Youtube. I attach below one of my favorites, one that is so simple, so pure, so cute, yet so profound.
